Modernism comes into play barely in the post war period but comes in 63-74 and creates
an EXPLOSION in genre

Pervasive influence on movies, arts, etc…still pervasive today
The hours- very pure modernist (some are very diluted)
Eisenstein? Pachenky?
Modernism infiltrated in 20s and 30s but it was submersive politically and it didn’t make
money
Modernism resurfaces again in European cinema after ww2 that the italians called
neorealism? In Sweden. In France they called it the new wave. Sometimes very few in
America did so.

every modernist work is a self-conscious questioning of all social and moral issues
its up front in challenging and questioning the norm
maybe not coming up with any answers but probing for them by questoning
the world is not homogenius….its heterogenius…very complex world
the morality is not a traditional morality…it operates through situation rather than natural
law
