Cinema Lecture – Week 8 21:00 Genre – How it creates meaning and how it is applied by us. -It is a distinct type of category in which a group of films are clubbed together  because of certain essential common characteristics. -Thematic Elements: Setting Characters Plots – conflicts and tensions Types of costumes Types of sounds Actor Mood and atmosphere The above are the films content. Form of film: Visual design Composition Temporal design Form is how the film is put together. Content is what is inside the film. Every genre has framing, staging, photographing. But not every genre has the  same content. Aspects of genre: MYTH OR STORY CONVENTIONS – Ways of doing things that are particular to one genre as  apposed to another genre. ICONOGRAPHY - Set of images as well as a set of sounds that are associated  with one genre as apposed to another genre.
