Graff, Thomas, 1998. “The Locations of Wal-Mart and Kmart Supercenters: Contrasting Corporate Strategies.” Professional Geographer February, 46-57 Written by Thomas Graff, “the Locations of Wal-Mart and Kmart Supercenters: Contrasting Corporate Strategies” was published in the Professional Geographer in 1998. Graff targets students in geography and economics specialized in spatial patterns as she compares the superstores of Wal-Mart and Kmart and their successes and failures depending on the location of a store. He also explains what the effects of having more stores in the future would do for both the consumers and competitors. According to Graff, both Wal-Mart and Kmart were to open superstores which included discounted merchandize and groceries in their stores. Wal-Mart had started this new store in 1988, while Kmart had opened in 1991. Both companies were going for these types of stores for the future, since it would add more income for them. Even though both companies had the same idea, there were many things that made one succeed over the other. Wal-Mart had started from just a small discounted merchandize store to many superstores
