Command Line Study Sheet IST 210 Reference IST 210 text, Chapter 15, pages 623 to 657 To initiate a command line window: START – RUN – cmd o To go in and out of full screen mode, type ALT – ENTER The command prompt looks like this: o c:\> o Enter commands at this prompt o Note that the mouse has no function inside the command prompt window The exact location of a file is called its “path” o c:\Program Files\New The path shown above is for the C drive, Program Files directory, New subdirectory “directories” and “subdirectories” are called “folders” in Windows o c:\ is the Root directory, the highest level in the directory hierarchy To move from one drive letter to another, just type the drive letter preceded by a colon o c:\> h: result is: h:> Files that have extension .exe are executable program files. To execute or run these programs, type the name of the program (without the extension) on the command line o A file called program1.exe exists.
