MATH 121 EXTRA PRACTICE PROBLEMS ON COUNTING TECHNIQUES 1) Seventeen Magazine conducted a poll of readers asking them about their musical tastes. 40 respondents said they enjoyed rock music, 20 respondents said they enjoyed country music, and 5 said they liked both rock and country music. How many like rock music or country music? 2) A survey of 60 people indicated that 30 people like to watch basketball, 34 like to watch baseball, and 14 like to watch both basketball and baseball. (a) How many people surveyed like to watch basketball or baseball? (b) How many people surveyed like to watch baseball but not basketball? (c) How many people surveyed do not like to watch baketball and do not like to watch baseball? (d) Represent the above in a Venn diagram, indicating the cardinality of each disjoint region. 3) 40 publicly traded companies were profiled in a magazine. The magazine indicated that 35 companies scaled back executive compensation or paid out a quarterly dividend. 22 companies scaled back executive compensation and 20 companies paid out a quarterly dividend.
