Nicole Crowe Professor John Davis Section A 1. Culture. From an Anthropology definition it is the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another. When thinking back on Abelmans book there are a few different things that stand out for me now when I associate the word culture with its meaning. Culture is defined as a set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution, organization or group. When I think about my own idea of culture this is on of the usual definitions that I envision, a shared, shared being a very powerful and universal word in this definition, however after reading Abelmans book there is quite the distinction of culture from her view and from many other peoples idea of culture. Before reading the Intimate University I never really gave the thought of peoples culture as a separate definition for different groups, however, now I think about it completely different.
