Many people assume that film and popular cinema are the same. Even though the two have similar qualities, they are very different. When I think of popular cinema, I think of movies from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Popular cinema has that old black and white production and the film itself is along the line of melodramatic. Some examples of popular cinema movies to me would be Wizard of Oz, Frankenstein and Rawhide with Clint Eastwood are a few that come to mind. There have been many films that have been horrible even though there were great actors and actresses involved in the movie. Some examples of film would be, Gone with the Wind, Independence Day, Saving Private Ryan, The Last King of Scotland, etc. One of the biggest differences with film and popular cinema is popular cinema movies are not shown often in public movie theaters.
