Disc with a whole 1) A disc with radius R 1 , thickness d , and density ρ has a whole a distance a from its center with a radius R 2 . Calculate the moment of inertia of this disc around an axis perpendicular to this page and through the center of the disc. Hint: The object can be described as a superposition (addition) of a homogenous (full) disc with density ρ and a second homogenous disc of fictitious density –ρ . Make use of the parallel axis theorem. (30 marks)
