Ch. 11 09/11/2010 10:14:00 Essential concepts Basically our perception  things are what they are. We can experience things differently from other people because of how we  perceive certain things. Life happens—our interpretation cuases us to stress more than the event itself. Connections. . Attitude—cognitive level all the time Thinking—thhe way we think can change how we feel and act Automaticity On the basis of what aaron beck says We have automatic thoughts enter into ou head instantly upon environment  stimulus o Therapist need to recognize these thoughts and offer alt. solutions ABC model—activating event stimulates something (experience etc); this  event is null without meaning o Must think about it BEFORE we act (manifestation of our thought) Problem solving Notion that problem solving occurs when we can control our automatic
