My birth place is Haiti and it's all I had known. For six years I lived my life on our island in bliss ignorance to the outside world. I would dream about my adults years there; who I'd marry , where I'd live . Back then, Haiti was my life. I couldn't imagine anywhere else. However , once I had turned six, my mother left to see her family members that had migrated. I thought that's all it was . I thought that my mom would come back and walk through our doors a few weeks later butthat never happened. Instead, I was being prepared to go live in New York with her. At first the concept sounded like an adventure. I had never been outside of Haiti and this trip would present a chance to change that narrative about my life.
