Solutions to Review for Weeks-1and 2 1. What is the difference between descriptive and inferential statistics? Obviously only a crude (but accurate) answer is necessary. Descriptive merely describes data (mean, std, etc) whereas inferential makes estimates about populations using samples. 2. What terms are variables and what terms are coefficients? E = Mc 2 . Where E is energy, M is mass, and C is the velocity of light. E and M are variables. And C is coefficient. Identify the scale of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio) for the following five variables. All of the questions would be asked of several people, with each person giving one answer. You do not have to explain your answer to get credit, but it would be wise to do so because if we disagree with you, you will at least have an explanation of why you think so, and MAYBE we’ll give you credit. 3. Circumference of little finger. ratio 4. Sea Level interval 5. The number on a basketball jersey.
