Seamus Stephens Jean Samson CHLH 206 – R10 Prior to this assignment, I was not aware of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. I believe that they do not want to advertise such a heinous act. The U.S. Public Health Service has now made people very cautious with being involved in an experiment. Some may not want to participate if they have heard about the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Since the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, I believe current health care seeking behaviors or participation in biomedical studies of African Americans have to be very careful. They probably explain every little detail that they are going to perform on the test subjects during the experiment. They committed a horrible crime and ruined multiple peoples lives. They also have set the bar on what can and cannot be done to human test subjects. I believe African American males are now reluctant to be in an experiment after the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. They dont want to jeopardize their lives just so some scientists could see how their body responds to a deadly disease. I dont blame them for being so cautious. That was a terrible study to have and they should have treated all of those people in that experiment once they found a cure for it. They shouldnt have denied medical attention from these sick people. That was a terrible thing to do....
