Bambi meets Godzilla (1962) absurdism: credits were longer than the action, rational acknowledgement becomes weirdly comic, video doesn’t evolve into anything Traditional: Plot Events Meaningful activity Communicative language Develops meaningfully Interpretive tools: use basic elements to look at plot and character Absurdism: Situation Stasis Gratuitous acts Impotent speech No development Form equals content Keep waiting because nothing seems to be happening in the play, deals with uncertainty in how we define ourselves, the characters have no depth we can’t imagine their life before the play, nothing the characters do seem to add up except feel the void of waiting for a story line to unfold, the characters don’t teach us anything about ourselves, absurd theatre gives us an absurd experience leaving us lost when watching this play Theatre of the Absurd: completely different theatrical experience, tries to marry the form and the content, what seems like a hollowness the expectation and frustration of meaning is life
