Microeconomics is the study of how consumers and producers behave and how they interact in markets. In this course, we will analyze the supply and demand in markets for goods and markets for the factors of production. We will study various market structures, and price determination in perfectly competitive and imperfectly competitive markets. Attention is also given to the role of government in the economy and how government may influence market outcomes. As a social science, economics goes beyond a collection of facts about the economy. The emphasis is on analysis and this is based on economic models that abstract from many of the complexities of each situation. These models are generally expressed in graphical and mathematical forms, and this can make economics a
