Mgmt 425 – section 13 Sang Kim Google Case #13 004718842 Value: does it provide customer value and competitive advantage Google’s search engine gives them a competitive advantage and customer value. Their search engine is superior compared to their major competitors which allowed them to gain a majority of the market share. It also gives advertisers customer value since advertisers know that Google is the most preferred search engine. Rareness: do no other competitors possess it Google’s major competitors, Yahoo, AOL, and MSN, all have the search solutions services. However, they do not possess the quality search results that Google has. One reason for that is because Google concentrated on just their search engine while their major competitors distributed their resources towards other services such as email and sports news. Imitability: is it costly for others to imitate It would be costly for Yahoo, AOL, and MSN to try and imitate Google’s search engine because they would have to focus a lot of their resources towards their search engine.
