Hopefully, your studying is already underway for the upcoming exam. Remember, this class will likely be more difficult than the chemistry classes that you’ve experienced in high school. Do not expect the professors to start writing easier exams and do not expect the ability to regurgitate lecture information to automatically translate into a high grade. The necessary speed, proficiency, and conceptual understanding to perform well on these exams will only come through focused practice and review . Good luck! I. Solution Concentration and Dilutions 1. How many mL of 4.75 M Ca(OH) 2 solution contain 9.88 g of OH - ions? 2. What volume of 4.25 M rubidium chloride solution is required to react completely with 575 mL of 6.80 M sodium sulfate solution? 3a. Dissolve 10.8 g zinc nitrate in 250. mL of water. Calculate the concentration of zinc ions in this solution. 3b. What is the concentration of nitrate ions in this solution? 3c. How much more water (how many milliliters) must be added to this solution in order to dilute the nitrate concentration to 0.150 M? Note: the above multi-part problem (#3) is from an actual CHEM 105a exam given in 2007. What important formula do we use for dilution calculations?
