Paris Is Burning Pepper Labeija Movie is about the ball circuit. Among gay people, a dance competition that is their form of entertainment, their world, the place that they feel like they belong. The ball is their closest reality to the fame and spotlight. Didn't feel comfortable being poor, or middle class for that matter. Wanted the lifestyle of the rich, circa Dynasty . "Why do they have it & I don't?" Felt cheated out of it. A lot of the people have not two of a single item, no money, no home, they are hungry, but they will come to the ball, steal clothes, and live out their dreams for a night. W/ a ball you can do anything and become anything. VENI VIDI VICI In the 70s balls were a place where they liked to dress up like Vegas showgirls. Changed into a scene where they wanted to dress like models, like Iman. Kim Penedivis "I like th ecompetition, it makes me stronger, makes me think more."
