Information Systems Page 1 Within a business the Human Resources and the Finance are both important organizational departments that utilize information systems to successfully run their department. Each department uses a conglomeration of application programs which creates its own information system as a whole. Application programs are used to perform a specific task. Departmental information systems; such as human resource information systems (HRIS) are simply the collection of these application programs uniquely designed to create efficiency within a Human Resources uses the information systems as a way to manage all employee files, report and analyze employee information, store company related documents such as employee handbooks and policies and procedures, benefit enrollment, payroll, applicant tracking, and

These files are stored and made readily available for those employees that need to access the files immediately. The finance department is a department of knowledge workers (Rainer & Turban, 2009). These employees use information systems to gather data and than use it to make show the executives of a company knowledgeable about the financial status of the company. The finance department translates data for past, present, and the future of the company.
