The company is one of the world's leading hoteliers with some 3,400 operated or franchised properties in more than 65 countries. Marriott's hotels include such full-service brands as Renaissance Hotels and its flagship Marriott Hotels & Resorts, as well as select-service and extended-stay brands Courtyard and Fairfield Inn. It also owns the Ritz-Carlton luxury chain and resort, and time-share properties operated by Marriott Vacation Club International. Marriott additionally provides more than 2,000 rental units for corporate housing and manages 40 golf courses. The Marriott family, including CEO J. W. Marriott Jr., owns about 30% of the firm. A World of Ownership Opportunity Marriott International’s formal commitment to diversity began nearly 20 years ago, focused primarily on workplace programs. Today, Marriott’s global workforce, customers, owners, franchisees and suppliers give the company a competitive advantage and a strong industry leadership position. Owners & Franchisees - Diversity Ownership Program The Diversity Ownership Program helps Marriott attract and develop relationships with minority and women owners and franchisees that have a proven track record of success as business owners and entrepreneurs, and supports them through the development process. In 2005, Marriott set a goal to have 500 diverse-owned hotels. Today, Marriott has surpassed that goal with more than 550 as a part of its Diverse Ownership Initiative portfolio. To attract aspiring diverse owners and franchisees, the company hosts education summits with an in-depth look at how sites are evaluated, developed, financed and operated. “When you look at our ownership base, workforce, and suppliers, diversity permeates throughout,” said Ray Bennett, senior vice president, lodging development, Marriott International. “It’s attributable to our Chairman and CEO J.W. Marriott, Jr.’s leadership and continued commitment to be the world’s leading hospitality provider.
