Wedgewood is a china company that first developed standard costing as we know it today. Over a 20 year period Josiah Wedgewood wrote letters back and forth to his lawyer everyday to try and improve his company. Paris had an underground system where letters were put in tubes and could be sent across the city twice daily. He wrote down his successes and failures and this is our record of Standard Costing. He is part of the reason that we eat off of plates. Many people ate straight off of their tables, pretty much only the kings were the ones to eat off of plates. Wedgewood was the first one innovative enough to bring his prices down enough so that a common person could afford plates. His problems were time and money.
