FT Unit 1Reading Notes Chapter 1 Sec 1 - 3 levels of analysis: o Organization o Group/team o Personal/individual - Top 5 skills employers cared about: o Communication skills (verbal and written) o Honesty/integrity o Interpersonal skills (relates well to others) o Motivation/initiative o Strong work ethic Chapter 3 Sec 1 - Two types of fit: o Person Organization Fit: degree person’s values, personality, and goals match org o Person-job Fit: degree which skill, knowledge, abilities match job Job fit= do job well Organization fit= likes job, stays longer (sometimes leads to perform better) Chap 3 Sec 2 - Big 5 Personality Traits - Values = life long goals o Job suits values= happier, stay longer - Terminal values= end states in life (world peace, exciting life) - Instrumental values= characteristics to see in oneself (clean, honest, forgiving) - Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): measures types of personality, not traits o Test used very popularly today - Positive Affectivity: people are in good moods frequently

Unformatted text preview: -Negative Affectivity: people experience negative moods with greater frequency -Self monitoring: ability to monitor actions in social situations; change actions based on situation o Pros: good leaders, good networking, successful o Cons: bad evaluations, mental stress -Proactive Personality: person’s inclination to fix what is wrong -Self esteem: degree to which person has overall positive feelings about themselves -Self-efficacy: belief that someone can perform a task successfully o Increase by verbal encouragement, give freedom to succeed -Internal locus of control: you control your own actions, destiny-External locus of control: destiny controlled by other people o People with internal locus are more pro-active, healthier; external locus is depression -Problems with using personality: faking, not always applicable, low correlation to reality...
