Anaphora – rhetorical device involving the repetition of a word or group of words in successive clauses Ex : " I needed a drink, I needed a lot of life insurance, I needed a vacation, I needed a home in the country. What I had was a coat, a hat and a gun." 2. Asyndeton – rhetorical device involving the repetition where conjunctions, articles, and even pronouns are omitted Ex : "They dove, splashed, floated, splashed, swam, snorted." 3. Catharsis – the emotional effect a tragic drama has on its audience: the feelings of exaltation or relief that playgoers experience during and after the catastrophe, the culmination of the play’s falling action Ex : “Oedipus finds out that he has killed his father and married his own mother. He then proceeds to gouge his eyes out with his dead mother's adornments.” 4. Chiasmus – rhetorical device in which certain words, sounds, concepts, or syntactic structures are reversed or repeated in reverse order Ex : "You forget what you want to remember, and you remember what you want to forget." 5.
