Elements of comedy
Comedy is a type of writing piece and has a function to entertain the readers. In
definition, comedy will be formed if the writer used some funny language, or the
characters perform some unexpected behavior. The comedies, Golden Honeymoon
and The Greatest Man In the World, also have these two types of elements to make
them become a comedy.
Language of the two stories make use of the sense of humor. The language can be a
direct joke. For example, when Charley and Lucy, both of who are protagonists of the
story Golden Honeymoon, arriving the destination of vacation, Charley said that they
were lucky because not needing to choose a hotel among a series of them all of which
claimed that they are the best. In the same story, after celebrating with Lucy for her
birthday, Charley paid seventy – five cents for the supper and said that that every day
was not Lucy’s birthday was a good thing. Then, Lucy relied that this was not the
reality because she would have died soon, if every day was her birthday. Another
example should be the first time when Charley met Frank. To sneer at Frank, Charley
said that Frank’s beard looked like a regular blizzard.
