w Δ h Sean Daehn Gravitational Field Lab Report Purpose: to develop a conceptual and mathematical model for the energy stored in the gravitational field as you raise a particle vertically. Apparatus: Procedure: pulled pendulum back to raise height vertically 2 cm each time. We did this ten times. Then, Mr. W burned the string with the lighter to smoothly release the pendulum (piece of brass). It then swung down through the photogate at the lowest point. We then used the velocity combined with the mass in our model to get the kinetic energy. We assumed that kinetic energy was equal to the energy stored in the gravitational field.
