However, the term is also sometimes used as a measurement of how much influence a people has over their government, as in how much democracy exists. The word democracy originates from the Greek "demos" meaning "the people" and "kratein" meaning "to rule" or "the people to rule" which meant literally: "Rule by the People." The chief characteristic and distinguishing feature of a democracy is rule by supreme majority. In a democracy, the individual and any group of individuals composing any minority has no protection against the unlimited power of the majority. It is a case of majority over man. In realistic democracy means conflict among ideas, interests, and ideologies and elites it means a concern by leader for public problems, demands and needs.
