The following are a mixture of short and long answer questions. Avoid unnecessary details: (a) In the class we discussed the radiation emitted by an ammonia molecule that goes from one eigenstate to another. We also discussed the tunneling event that leads to the same exchange of energy. On the other hand when the nitrogen atom goes from one state to another and back again, one can view this as an oscillating charge. Since an oscillating charge emits radiation, the system should give out photons as long as it is oscillating, i.e even tunneling should emit photons. How do we reconcile this picture with the quantum mechanical derivation that we did in the class? (b) In a given Hilbert space the commutator of a time independent operator A with the Hamiltonian is a constant. Find how h A i evolves with time given that the system is in a normalised eigenstate of A at t = 0, corresponding to the eigenvalue
