Lecture 7 Little Richard Little Richard considers himself as the King of Rock n Roll. Little Richard grew up with gospel music playing in Georgia. He played exceptional jump blues/ R&B. He recorded a song called Tutti Fritti in the 50’s. Pat Boone then recorded his song after. He kept recorded Little Richards songs. Pat Boone became a superstar from Little Richards songs. His songs went higher on the chart than Little Richard’s version. ATLANTIC RECORDS Tutti Frutti – Little Richard (Also done by Pat Boone) (1955) Long Tall Sally – Little Richard (Also done by Pat Boone) (1955) Art Rupe is Little Richard’s manager. He was a lot like Joe Glazer. He was thought to be behind the whole “Pat Boone covers”. Little Richard is still mad today because of those songs. The Shirelles It was a doo-wop group that consisted of a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds. They made it known that a girl group could reach the top of the charts. Greenberg was their manager. RCA RECORDS
