Carcinoma Describe the medical equipment and procedures involved in diagnosing and treating the condition. Carcinoma is another name for colon cancer. This cancer occurs when your colon or rectum becomes abnormal and divides and forms a mass that is called a tumor. Numerous screenings can be done for this cancer before symptoms even appear; one procedure is called a colonoscopy. If your test show some sort of abnormality then your doctor will order additional test such as x-rays, MRI’s, or sigmoidoscopy. If abnormality’s show in these tests then a biopsy or polypectomy may be performed to determine if cancer is indeed present. If the disease has been diagnosed, do you agree with the doctor? Why or why not? The doctor says that the patient has carcinoma of the colon or rectum. The patient says

She is nauseated and having trouble keeping down food as well as having blood in her stool. It may be possible that the patient is suffering from colon cancer due to the blood in stool and nausea but it is very rare to have abdominal pain of any sort with colon cancer so I will have to disagree with the diagnoses. • • If you do not agree with the doctor, or the disease has not yet been diagnosed, offer a diagnosis and treatment plan. • • The patient also has the symptoms of what could be a stomach ulcer. Stomach ulcers cause abdominal pain, nausea, and blood in stool as well. I suggest that the patient visits her doctor again for additional test and change her diet to a healthier one....
