INTRODUCTION TO DR. MADELEINE LEININGER Madeleine Leininger, nursing theorist, is responsible for expanding on what is called “holistic care”. Leininger obtained a PhD in human science and philosophy. Her greatest accomplishment included her explanation for the need to provide culturally competent care and culturological assessment of a patient in her renowned publishings.Culture Care Diversity & Universality (Busher, 2016)Transcultural Nursing (Busher, 2016). Before, Leininger basic physiological, sociological and environmental background were the main aspect of the nursing assessment.This concept of nursing involved acknowledgment of a patient’s generational and spiritual beliefs. Transcultural nursing addressed the patient, education, nursing and environment, the basic metaparadigms of nursing. Knowing how a patient’s cultural background will allow them to accept, view and follow health guidelines, opened nurse-patient relationships (Wehbe-Alamah, 2018).
