Gregory Tsigounis International environmental politics Book Review 1 International Environmental Politics is a complex idea that is surrounded by influence. In both “NGO Diplomacy” and “The Business of Global Environmental Governance” they provide insight on these influences and make an attempt to rationalize there effects into a better understanding of their potentials given to a specific scenario. In “NGO Diplomacy” the authors target their focus primarily on the functionality of NGOs and their effects toward creating diplomacy as well as democratizing intergovernmental decision making. “The Business of Global Environmental Governance” deals with the involvement of the private sector and its relationship toward policy building however the authors reject the stereotypical attacks on the private sector that has been seen too often. Instead of targeting the private sector as an all terrible institution, they demonstrate its benefits all while providing warnings of its potential abuse that is inevitable on the level of influence. Both books select a specific topic of influence and have based factual evidence through conceptualizing the situations among them by implementing studies of analytical, systematic, and comparative frameworks. These methods gather and assess evidence that produce findings backed up by scenically found data. On one hand you have a book that discusses the role of NGOs as they influence their ideals toward negotiation and decision making especially when directly relating to environmental issues. It is the authors of this books primary goal to put forth a systematic study that analyzes and compares its application through the experiments frameworks. Where as the other book, “Business of Global Environmental Governance,” discusses business being the central role in environmental governance among all its influences.
