Global warming by definition is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near- surface air. Global warming also has become one of the most troublesome issues to face for humans. “The average surface temperature of earth has increased more than 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1900 and the rate of warming has been nearly three times the size of that” ( Global Warming by Andrew C. Revkin New York Times ) The cause s of global warming are many. Some of these changes are produced by man. Climate experts say that the planet has warmed 11 degrees in 6000 years and less than 0.2 since man started using fossil fuels 150 years ago. Carbon Dioxide is another big part of the puzzle. Carbon dioxide at a standard temperature exist in the Earth’s atmosphere. Carbon Dioxide makes people feel drowsy and can damage the respiratory system. “Carbon Dioxide Emitted from Cars About 20% of U.S carbon dioxide emissions (and about 2% total man induced or 0.003% of total emissions) comes from the burning of gasoline in internal-combustion engines of cars and light trucks (minivans, sport utility vehicles, pick-up trucks, jeeps, smart cars and hybrids)” ( Causes of Global Warming retrieved on June 19, 2010 by Answers.com) “Carbon Dioxide from Power Plants In 2002 about 40% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions stem from the burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity generation. Coal accounts for 93 percent of the emissions from the electric utility industry.” ( Causes of Global Warming retrieved on June 19, 2010 by Answers.com) Humans have a great part involving the damage of the earth resources and making more pollution because of the more technology. They don’t create the friendly resources in order to build a better environment. “Global warming is caused by a buildup of atmospheric gases increasingly emitted by human activities--mostly the burning of fossil fuels. Most prominent among these gases is carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), used by plants in photosynthesis, the process by which they turn sunlight into vegetable energy. Given the critical link between plants and CO 2 , it makes sense that scientists would study how higher levels of the gas will affect plants. What they are finding is a warning to us all.” ( Global Warming coming to your backyard? by Roger Di Silvestro) Another cause is deforestation. Deforestation happens when trees are cut out in big bundles and the habitats are being ruined. It occurs by logging and burning of the trees. Methane is the second most important greenhouse gas. Methane creates an attractive fuel. Methane is not toxic but is highly flammable. Methane is used on in heating and cooling our homes and businesses, cooking, electrical power generation, and when compressed is used as a vehicle fuel.

Nitrous Oxide is another gas contributor to global warming. It is non flammable and colorless. It is commonly known as the laughing gas. It is a moderately sensitive explosive and a very popular oxidizer. It is also used for detonation. It has also medical
