Introduction : In electricity generation, an electrical generator is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. The source of the mechanical energy can be reciprocating or turbine steam engine, water falling through a turbine water wheel, an internal combustion engine, a wind turbine and compressed air . Hussein Thermal Power Station : In our visit to HTPS (Hussein Thermal Power Station) which located in Al-zarqa. This Station was the first station in Jordan which generates electricity and distributes it all over the kingdom. It has been founded in 1977 and started to generate electricity since then . HTPS has different types of generators such as: Gas turbine (burns N 2 , diesel) , Steam turbine. The efficiency did not change since 1977 because of the periodic maintenance and the careful usage and it's 29-30%. Now there is 7 steam turbine units and 2 gas turbine units . Steam power plant cycle : Steam power plant is a simple way to generate electricity and we can

Unformatted text preview: summarize the cycle of this type of generators as follow : The water starts in the CRT (Condensate Recovery Tank) transferred by a pump into a boiler, then it became a saturated steam. This saturated steam goes to a super heater which enters the turbine. The superheated steam rotate the blades of the turbine and when the superheated steam passes through the turbine stages, the CCR fans reduce the steam temperature and condense it then it returns to the CRT. The CCR fans located the over the turbines and have many stages . The following figure describes the Steam power plant cycle : The fuel consumption = 300 g/ K.W.H These are some facts about the steam in the power plant : Steam flow = 159 ton/hour Steam temperature = 482 C Steam pressure = 63 Kg/cm Thermodynamics Report Professor Mousa S. Mohsen Hussein Thermal Power Station visit Student name: Nayef Fawaier Reg. number : 2008103042...
