ETHICS AND COMPLIANCE 2 Ethics and Compliance: The Walt Disney Company Organizational ethics refers to generally accepted standards designed to guide behavior in business and other organizational contexts (Leclair, Ferrell, & Fraedrich, 1998). The Walt Disney Company is known around the world as a family-friendly entertainment and media company founded on the creations of the Walt Disney Studios. Business ethics plays a large role in the company’s reputation and its continued success. Team A will describe in the following paragraphs the role of ethics in the organization’s financial environment, including the procedures in place to ensure ethical behavior and processes used to comply with SEC regulations. The team will then evaluate the organization’s performance during the last two years, using financial ratios calculated for each year. These ratios include current, debt, return on investment (ROI), and day’s receivable, each of which the team will discuss in terms of trends for each ratio and how they relate to the organization’s financial health. The Role of Ethics and Compliance Ethics and compliance play a crucial role in the success of The Disney Company. Any company that fails to make ethics a priority risks damage to its reputation and the value of its brand. Disney is recognized and well respected in the entertainment and media industry. As a public company, Disney relies on the trust of investors to help the firm achieve its corporate goals. Trust requires a high-level of corporate responsibility in the organization’s financial environment. This environment includes the manufacture and sale of toys and related products, and the operation of a multitude of media companies and outlets. Each division has unique demands regarding ethics and compliance. Disney has a code of ethics to follow for any financial related aspects of the company. Their code of ethics pertains to business activities conducted both national and international. The
