See Amazing in All Children Evaluation Report Executive Summary According to See Amazing in All Children Evaluation Report Executive Summary “Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) affect approximately one in every 68 children in the US, but while the ASD diagnosis is common, the public’s understanding of ASD is varied. Advocacy and policy efforts have made strides in increasing awareness, but meaningful community integration and acceptance have been more difficult to achieve”. Many children in school suffer from bulling from peers, stress, and negative attitudes from others because of Autism. See Amazing in All Children is a Sesame Street website show that have characters who have Autism. The website has information on Autism and resources for everyone to access. This purpose of this online show is to help promote awareness in young children ages two through five. It was also brought about to help with acceptance of others who may have some type on disability. The website provides routine cards, a show that is directed toward children with autism and building independence in children with autism. Research was conducted by Georgetown University and Children National Health System to evaluate reaction of website with online materials, promotes increased knowledge and acceptance of ASD, promotes increased positive attitudes about ASD, specifically feelings about the effect of having an ASD child on community inclusion and, parenting and parenting competences. “Second, by using a nationwide recruitment strategy, approaching parents by email, websites, flyers in clinics and service programs, and social media, we were able to enroll large number of individuals, most of whom had not visited the See Amazing website. Third, the survey instruments covered areas conceptually-relevant to the goals of the initiative and were based on well-established measures.” The acceptance has increase significantly in both groups of parents and with this amount of acceptance will help with promoting acceptance in the community with children who have ASD. The daily routine cards were beneficial to both parents and enjoyed videos that were on website. This research has shown through the Muppet on sesame street the positive impact it has changed within the community. This is an important step to educating the community on Autism in young children and I feel with these types of programs putting in extra effort to include children with disabilities helps
all children understand more about disabilities and It brings awareness to this specific topic. I like that parents of children who have ASD and parents of non-ASD children were involved in this research project. Their input was included on how they like the website and materials. I
