BIOTECH UNIQUENESS Dartmouth 2K9 TANAY MEHTA 1 BIOTECH UNIQUENESS INVESTMENT IS UP—PREFER OUR PREDICTIVE EVIDENCE Industrial Info 5/21(“Despite Rocky Economic Landscape, Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry Moves Forward with Sizeable  Investment of Capital Projects, a Feature of "Navigating the Currents of Change" on Industrialinfo.com”, 2009,  http://www.industrialinfo.com/showNews.jsp?newsitemID=146988) SUGAR LAND--May 21, 2009--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Once considered "recession-proof,"  the  Pharmaceutical     -Biotech Industry       has received a stunning wake-up call      along with virtually every other industrial sector that it is  not impervious to the world's current  economic crisis . Despite these challenges facing the industry, there nevertheless remains an   impressive amount of capital projects expected to move forward in 2009 and beyond . Buoyed by the need for development of new  drugs and devices, as well as disease detection and eradication, the industry currently has more than 430 projects with a combined   total investment value  (TIV) of nearly $17 billion scheduled to kick-off in North America throughout 2009.   This activity, which  carries a healthy average project TIV of $45 million, covers both capital projects, which range from expansions and facility upgrades  to grassroot projects rising from the ground up or additions that transform existing buildings into state-of-the-art life science facilities.  Routinely scheduled maintenance programs are also covered. A large percentage of the current project activity deals with the need to  develop new vaccines and treatments that target a host of ailments, the importance of which is underscored by the current swine flu  dilemma and recent tainted peanut butter scare.  Join Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info's Vice President for the Pharmaceutical-Biotech
