. Biology in the Community In order to apply the information you learn in this course, you are required to participate in some activity in the community and turn in a 2-page paper. This could be a talk given on a biology topic or volunteering on a restoration project. Assignment Participate in the local biology community and write a 2 page paper. Final Deadline the last day to turn in the assignment is December 10 h www.turnitin.com Points 15 points Turnitin.com Biology in the Community and Extra Credit papers are due through www.Turnitin.com. You will need to go to the website and register in our course I. Restoration Work You will find information on restoration work in the Sonoma/Marin region on the bulletin bard in the lab. Paper should include the following 1) summary of the work you did 2)the main ecological and biological goals of the project 3) what you learned from the project and how that relates to the material in the course 4) Get the signature of the person supervising the restoration. Signature sheet is at the end of this document. II. Speakers You may attend a lecture on any topic of biology. In your write up include the following 1) a discussion of the topic of the lecture and 2) what you learned from the talk and how that relates to the talk. Here are some local forums for speakers that you may want to look into. Ask your instructor to see if a talk you are interested in qualifies. Biology Forum (Bio 55) This is a one unit class that has regular speakers. You may enroll, or you may attend individual lectures. The lecture topics will be posted in the Bio 10 Lab. Friday’s 12-1:30pm, Lark 2004 . Meets six Fridays starting 9/24. Dates to be announded. announced in class
