Why, in particular, do you wish to attend Bates? As I listened to Bates Multicultural Representative Marylyn Scott speak at my high school about the intensive academics, active student lifestyle, and cultural diversity of Bates College, I was instantly intrigued. The reason I wish to attend Bates College is because of the unique academic and social environment. Since I am an active learner, I was excited to discover that Bates College does not simply have lectures and tests, rather teachers allow the students to do research and other activities among themselves to enhance the learning experience. I was also interested to hear that a majority of the students study abroad. Studying abroad is something that I have planned on ever since I lived in France for a year during middle school. In addition, I attend a high school with 30 to 35 students per class, making it difficult for me to have one-on-one interaction with my teachers.
