2 Potential Application of Foamed WPCs • High density – Auto industry – inner panels – Artificial wood • Door and Window frames • Furniture industry • Low density – Insulation – Packaging- shock absorption Physical (PBA) versus Chemical Blowing Agents (CBA) • Lower processing temperature (smaller amount of volatiles) • More economical • Environmentally friendly • Higher cell densities possible • Larger volume expansion ratio • Processing temperature control required for CBA (thick parts) • Trend to replace CBA with PBA in industry • PBAs are more technologically challenging
