AAE 532 – Orbit Mechanics Problem Set 5 Due: 10/4/10 Problem 1: Spacecraft SP2 is in Earth orbit. Someone is concerned it might not survive the next 25 minutes without crashing. Given its current state a) Determine o . Is the spacecraft ascending or descending? Find E , a, Period, h, p, e, * o , E o , (t o -t p ). b) Determine 1 and E 1 at time t 1 that is 25 minutes in the future. Determine values for the f and g functions (also f and g ) relating the states at t 1 to the original states. Use these functions to evaluate the vectors and at that time. c) Did you use the  * or E versions of the f and g functions? Try the other version and demonstrate that the same states result. d) Does SP2 crash prior to time t 1 ? If not, how close does it pass the surface?
