AAE 532 – Orbital Mechanics Problem Set 7 Due: 10/20/10 Problem 1: A vehicle is currently in Earth orbit such that .75 and 4.5 ea R = = . (a) There are two locations in the original orbit where a maneuver could accomplish the objectives. What are the corresponding values of θ ? Determine 11 1 ,, rv γ −− at the maneuver points. (b) Determine the required maneuver ( , v α Δ ) at each location. [Don’t forget the vector diagrams!] What are the values of 1 , v + + for each case? (c) Use the maneuver corresponding to the minimum cost . Plot the old and the new orbits. On the plot, mark 011 1 , , , local horizon, rrv , 11 ,, , vv ++ Δ . (d) Determine the position and velocity when 160 = D in the new orbit. Use and f g relationships. Mark this location on the plot. How long after the maneuver does this point occur?
