2010-11 FA2 Financial Accounting: Assets 2 Financial Accounting: Assets 4 Welcome I would like to extend a very warm welcome to each of you have chosen to take Financial Accounting: Assets (FA2) this term. I think we will ‘get to know each other’ during the term. Generally, I will present this first lecture as if you have had no other CGA Course experience, as I have found that ½ of the students are taking FA2 as their first CGA course. Financial Accounting: Assets 5 Welcome Module 1 might be a little longer than other modules because of the long introduction area. I am hoping to point out all the resources available to you so that you can effectively and efficiently make your way successfully through this course. I am also hoping that I can share with you the knowledge that I have about the CGA program so that you can have effective study habits, enabling you to move into a successful career in accounting. Financial Accounting: Assets 6 My CGA Background I have been a CGA for a number of years now and involved with marking assignments for the CGA for over 15 years. I have been a lecturer for CGA BC for the last 15 years and involved with the on-line lectures since they started almost 10 years ago. I am very involved with the CGA program and educational development. Some say that I am passionate about the CGA program. Having my CGA has enabled me to a have a successful career, that I am very proud of.

2010-11 FA2 Financial Accounting: Assets 3 Financial Accounting: Assets 7 Career Background I teach accounting full time at a University, as well as present lectures from time to time for various CGA courses. (Once I gave a lecture for PA1 in Beijing!) Before teaching full time I was the regional controller for Coca Cola in British Columbia and I have a number of years experience in Municipal Government, including a large police department. I have only had a few years experience in public practice. Financial Accounting: Assets 8 Purpose of Lecturer In general, CGA courses are set up for self study. Tutors and lecturers are not teachers in the traditional sense. The lecturer can be viewed as a facilitator of knowledge.
