2 Barnes and Noble Brief Introduction: Barnes & Noble, Inc deals in book retailing; it is a US-based company with a multi-channel business and has stores in all 50 states. It operates chain of 1355 bookstore which includes 720 superstores and 635 college book stores. Most of its stores serve Starbucks Coffee and also sell magazines, newspapers, DVDs, graphic novels, music etc. it is renowned for customer satisfaction and is the leader in this specialty. It also sells books through its online subsidiary. A major challenge it faces is strong competition from Amazon.com, Books-A- Million and Borders Group. Direct Channels of distribution: Retail Stores These stores provide service, wide range of products for selection and comfortable shopping. They comprise of a team of cooperative shop sellers who provide guidance and assistance to the buyers/customers.
