COMPARISON OF LIFE 2 Comparison of life in the U.S and the Soviet Union in the 1960’s The 1960’s was a period of time which was full of change, innovation and new hopes for the future of the United States. The civil rights movement was in full-swing as was the initiation of the equal rights movement for women. The presidency of John F. Kennedy, even though brief, was a glimmer of light and hope for all Americans. Change abounded and high hopes for the future of the country were shared by all citizens. Many of the conflicts during the 60's could be considered to be part of the ongoing cold war between the East and the West (Communism -- Capitalism), but due to the Nuclear Capabilities of both sides nether wanted to start a full scale war as they realized there could be no winner but both believed their ideology was
