There are eight main phases of the SDLC: systems investigation, system analysis, systems design, programming, testing, implementation, operation, and maintenance. The different phases will require different personnel with different skills to participate. The first phase of the SDLC will be the systems investigation stage which involves the evaluation of the business problem and the conducting of feasibility studies. In this phase, the system development professionals need to identify and evaluate business problems thus they will need the help of the various departments in the organization to provide information on problems which are experienced by the organization. Next, feasibility studies will require the participation of IT personnel to identify technical feasibility, finance department and managers to identify financial feasibility, management and the human resource department to address organizational and human feasibility. New information can also be retrieved through methods like surveys which will require participation of employees, customers and business partners depending on the context of the business problem. The system designs phase will require the participation of system developers to come up with a new system. The programming phase will require programmers to translate design specifications. This is followed by the testing phase which will require both the programmers and designers to work out possible problems of the system. Both the implementation phase and operation will require participation of the entire organization because everyone will need to adopt the new system.
