3 Overlap-add motivation • It’s often not possible to process a signal in its entirety – Memory limitations—don’t have enough (fast) RAM to hold the whole signal – Real-time processing—can’t load the whole signal because it hasn’t happened yet • Instead, process the signal in chunks (a.k.a. blocks, segments, etc.) • Can this lead to the same result? Yes!
