1 MEEN 315-501 Fall 2010 Problem Set 09 Due: Not Due for credit. Work all problems! Solutions will be posted on Wed. 11/17/10 1. Air is compressed by a 30 kW compressor from P 1 to P 2 . The air temperature is maintained constant at 25ºC during this process as a result of heat transfer to the surrounding medium at 17ºC. Determine the rate of entropy change of the air. State the assumptions made in solving this problems. 2. Refrigerant -134a enters the coils of the evaporator of a refrigeration system as a saturated liquid-vapor mixture at a pressure of 160 kPa. The refrigerant absorbs 180 kJ of heat from the cooled space, which is maintained at -5ºC, and leaves as saturated vapor at the same pressure. Determine (a) the entropy change of the refrigerant, (b) the entropy change of the cooled space, (c) the total entropy change for this process. 3. Water vapor enters a turbine at 6 Mpa and 400ºC, and leaves the turbine at 100 kPa with the same specific entropy as that at the inlet. Calculate the difference between the
