ABSTRACT: Nowadays computer plays a very important role in the chemical engineers life. It helps to perform better and faster. The objective of this experiment is to determine the order of the reaction and the rate constant during the saponification of ethyl acetate. With the help of the computer, 2 L of 0.05 M NaOH was mixed with a 0.2 L of 0.05M of ethyl acetate in a batch reactor. Then a value of CAo/CA-1 was recorded at several different times. The initial concentration of CAo was calculated to be equal to 0.0455M. the order of the reaction was found to be 2 nd order with a rate constant of 6.789 L/(mol.min). the percentage difference was found out to be 3%. INTRODUCTION: At a batch reactor the chemicals are fed before and the product are removed after the processing occurs. They are used normally for small quantities or when the reaction needs to be controlled carefully. With the help of the new technology basic operation in chemical engineering can be carried out easily. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND: For any constant volume batch reactor the rate of the reaction can be represented by : -rA=kf(CA)=-dCA/dt where f(CA) is any function f of CA it can be arrange to kt = -dCA/f (CA) 1
