Basic Terms 1 Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) In my own words means the parties involved in a law suit find an alternative method to resolve their issues without having to take the case to trial. I personally have been trying to use ADR in a personal case I have filed against my son's father for custody and child support. During our pre-trial meeting with the Judge she suggested we consider coming to an agreement prior to our trial date so as to prevent the need for an actual trial. This in my opinion is a perfect example of using ADR for a resolving a matter for the courts. (p. 45-49) Jurisdiction Jurisdiction is the area of the law that determines what court or courts carry the authority to apply law for a dispute. This can be jurisdiction over a person who the suit is against or the property where the claim occurred or the matter of the dispute. There are several factors for establishing what will
