Holacracy The structure of an organization determines how roles and responsibilities, key activities and teams are aligned within it. Organizational leaders have a responsibility to align their companies so that it best utilizes the individual talents of their employees, streamlines their key activities, and subsequently make their organizations successful. The intent behind holacracy was to structure an organization that fostered adaptability, communication, autonomy, expeditated decision-making, and empowered employees’ creativity. The theory of holacracy has been adopted at several organizations both successfully, and unsuccessfully. Where the real challenge lies are for a leader to understand their organization enough to know if this unique form of management would succeed or fail. What is Holacracy? Holacracy is a method of structuring an organization that is reliant upon self- management. Rather than being focused on job titles, a holacratic organization is role driven. Morgan (2015) discussed how the fundamental goal of this structure was to allow for broader decision-making ability and to manage talent by “giving everyone the opportunity to work on what they do best” (p.3). The holacratic organization is designed to be a flatter structure
