David Rounds Chpt 4 1. difference between rigid body deformation and strain- rigid body is complete transformation, strain change of points in a body releative to each other. 2. difference between translation and rotation- rotation is movement around an axis, translation is movement from one place to another. 3. difference between strain and dilation- dilation is change in area, strain changes points in body in relatation to each other 4. a 5. describe the displacement of individual points, and refers mathematically to an infinitesimally small volume of material in a continuum. 6. difference between heterogeneous and homogeneous strain- similar form and orientation remain similar- parallel lines stay the same, straight lines stay straight, circle become ellipses, spheres become ellipsoids. Heterogeneous- when one or more restrictions above are true. 7. a 8. material line- two lines that rotate relative to each other in homogenous strain 9. strain ellipse- material lines form axes of strain ellipse, homogenous strain
